2) In the movie and the book the character, Robert Muldoon, was a game park warden and former professional hunter from Africa. A man like that would be accustomed to a specific rifle, and would use it.
3) Even overlooking the two above, the 12 gauge would be hopelessly inadequate against the larger animals in the park. They’d have some heavier ordnance around.

1) Specific to the animals; a shotgun would be adequate for killing a real velociraptor, as they were animals not much bigger than a turkey. The ones in JP were a larger animal, some bigger dromeosaur. I’d be worried buckshot wouldn’t stop them, and if you’re going to use slugs, why not use a rifle? (Continued next post)
@Animalco What do you mean? It it that they stopped making them by then or what? Why is the spas 12 not appropriate for killing raptors and what kind of gun would you use? Just curious!
@jeanclaudejunior Because people in Hollywood generally don’t know their asses from their faces where firearms are concerned. Some bozo in the props department saw one in the studio’s warehouse and went “duuuhh, that one looks cool!”
